Girl Scout Gold Award 2011 Recipient
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve, representing extraordinary leadership, dedication, and community impact. Earning the award requires identifying a pressing issue, developing a sustainable solution, and leading a project that makes a lasting difference. It is equivalent in prestige to the Boy Scouts of America's Eagle Scout Award and is recognized nationally as a mark of excellence and commitment to service.
Young Women Speak
Art Exhibition

For my Girl Scout Gold Award, I created Young Women Speak, an art exhibition designed to amplify the unspoken stories of young women through creative expression. This platform celebrated the struggles and triumphs that shape young women’s lives, encouraging them to use art as a means of sharing their truth. My goal was to spotlight the talent that exists within our communities and to call attention to the voices that too often go unheard.
Through partnerships with the Chrysler Museum of Art, d’Art Center, Oak Grove Baptist Church, and the Portsmouth and Norfolk public school systems, select artists (Grades 9-12) were given the opportunity to showcase their work in professional gallery spaces for a month. Additionally, a commemorative book featuring artwork and live performances was created and donated to public libraries in Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake—ensuring these voices continue to be seen, heard, and valued throughout the community. My hope is that this project inspires girls and women to recognize, embrace, and express their individual voices—no matter how quiet or overlooked they may feel.
